Inspire your music students to channel their creativity with highly interactive methods taught by renowned percussionist and educator Mark Shelton.  Improvise in a drum circle,  take a solo on a bucket, and compose with “found sounds” as you learn ways to develop creative skills in the elementary music class.  Mark will present material from his books, Give Me A Groove, Give Me A Bucket, and Found Soundology, published by Heritage Music Press. There will be opportunities to participate as Mark gives rehearsal tips during the session.

Clinician Bio

After presenting over a thousand workshops, Mark Shelton is ready to share his high energy combination of education and entertainment with your audience. Whether it’s a solo percussion performance, a professional development session, or a drum circle for teens, Mark brings his trademark blend of warmth, humor, and teaching skills to your event.

From the early days of his career as Visiting Artist at Coastal Carolina Community College to his current work as a soloist, clinician, and entrepreneur, Mark Shelton has created programs, products, and educational services for a variety of ages. A member of the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster, Mark has presented his solo percussion program, The Strike, Scrape, & Shake Show ™ to thousands of students in schools and libraries. He is a teaching artist with Young Audiences chapters in Northeast and Southeast Texas, Big Thought in Dallas, Junior Players, and Mobile Ed Productions. Mark is an official Boomwhackers ™ facilitator (Rhythm Band Inc.) and also writes for the elementary music magazine, Activate!, published by Heritage Music Press.
